Part 1: Newsletter – Issue #711
To have a business, you must have customers, and I have never met a customer who, at some level, does not like to be “WOWED”!
Since you are a business owner or manager receiving this, the title to this week’s SoundADvice didn’t necessarily unravel you with curiosity. “The WOW Factor” has been an expression you’ve heard often. But ask yourself this question…How many times in the past month or even in the past year have you made a purchase from a business and actually been “WOWED”? More times than not, the shopping and/or buying experience was normal at best. Unfortunately, we have come to accept normal, routine, mundane, and even blasé! Because people accept mediocrity is precisely why it doesn’t take much to WOW the average customer. When you think of WOW factors, you might think of big things, or things that cost money and take tons of extra effort and time. The truth is, more often than not, it’s the little things that create the biggest WOWS! As your competition grows from the business down the street and across town to businesses across the country, and in some cases globally, the ability to WOW your customers can often be a factor in whether you retain them as a customer or not. Regardless if your business is retail, service, professional, industrial, educational, or anything else, if you have customers, you have opportunities to WOW them. WOW Idea #2 is, A Simple Phone Call. At the end of the day or within a day or two of your customers making a purchase, call them (not text or email) and ask them if they are satisfied with the product or service, or how they are doing. The question will of course be based on the product or service you provided. Each call should take less than 60 seconds. This is best if it comes from the owner or manager, but the WOW will be felt regardless of whom within your business makes the call. We suggest gathering a group of your valued employees or confidants and brainstorming ideas on how you can WOW your customers, clients, and patients. We’re not suggesting that every interaction with every customer needs to meet or exceed the “WOW Factor” criteria. However, implementing “WOW Factors” with a broad base of your customers over an extended time will deliver the results you are looking for. Here is a key point in creating a “WOW” experience…DO NOT advertise it. The unexpectedness, the surprise element, is what makes it so powerful.
