The Leadership Secrets of… Ho! Ho! Ho! What? Santa Claus, a Leader? Last week we wrote about the difference between leadership and management. As we mentioned, oftentimes the roles of a leader and a manager are played by the same person. Leading a company and managing the people and aspects of the company is never easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it and doing it well! At the conclusion of last week’s SoundADvice, we teased that this week we would offer ten leadership secrets from one of the world’s greatest but most unexpected leaders! It’s Santa Claus! You don’t have to be a believer, but if you have an open mind and a willingness to learn, Santa Claus’ secrets can help you run a much happier, more productive, and more profitable shop, regardless of the type of business. You may have never given any thought to the fact of Santa Claus being a leader, but the North Pole is a busy, busy place with lots of tiny little employees, and someone has to run this conglomerate that has a monopoly on the biggest holiday of the year! Like any business owner, Santa wears many hats. He’s in charge of hiring and firing, training, and keeping the little elves motivated. He oversees purchasing, shipping, and receiving. He deals with customer relations and of course, he handles complaints. In addition, there’s new technology and processes to deal with. It’s not easy being Santa Claus! In Eric Harvey’s book, The Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus, he provides ten practical strategies for leading others and getting big things done all year long! Santa’s first strategy is, “Build a Wonderful Workshop”. Every business should have a mission. At Santa’s workshop, their mission is “Making spirits bright by building and delivering high-quality toys to good little girls and boys”. He suggests making the mission the main thing. His ten strategies cover nearly all aspects of leadership from “Choosing Your Reindeer Wisely”, to “Sharing the Milk and Cookies”, and last but not least, “Be Good for Goodness Sake”. Show me a business with a great leader and I’ll show you a great business. Show me a business with something less than a great leader and you’ll see results that match. Not only is it a fun and cute read but learning and implementing these strategies will help you run a better business, create happier employees and customers, and be more productive and profitable. You’ll most certainly have a more successful workshop! To purchase a copy(s) of the book, go to www.simpletruths.com and search “The Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus”. From all of us at ENS Media and everyone at the radio stations who provide you with these messages each week, we wish you a very Blessed and Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous new year! |
