BIG Q CASSETTE CLASSIC
DANNY HUTTON HITTERS
“WOULDN’T IT BE GOOD”
1986’s Pretty in Pink was an amazing movie to me growing up. I really identified with Ducky, the character that women instantly put in the “friend zone”, even though he was a much better person than the pretty boy that women have been pre-programmed to “want” since birth. Of course, since a movie is made to make money, you can’t have the female pick the good guy, she has to pick the pretty prick. Personally, I think the movie would have been better if they bucked the typical trend, but the movie would’ve still been outshined by the music.
There’s the title track “Pretty in Pink” by the Psychedelic Furs, “If you Leave” from O.M.D, “Left of Center” by Suzanne Vega, “Shell Shock” by New Order, “Do Wot You Do” by INXS, but my favorite was by the Danny Hutton Hitters called “Wouldn’t It Be Good”.
It wasn’t till I started doing Radio for a living that I found out it was a remake from called Nik Kershaw that came out in 1984.
I enjoyed how the person isn’t satisfied, always wanting something “better”, then it’s like another personality takes over and says “you must be joking…I’d stay right there if I were you”. It came across to me as an internal battle between fighting for better, and learning to appreciate what you have.
Even though I don’t watch the movie anymore, I still listen to the music, and this song will always be a Big Q Cassette Classic. The Danny Hutton Hitters version of Nik Kershaw’s’ “Wouldn’t It Be Good”.
